General description

Method: Colorimetric, with test strips, 0.5 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 10 mg/L (NO2-), MQuant®

The MQuant® The test can be used to determine nitrite in the environmental analysis, surface water investigations and aquaristics. The test extends the range of sensitivity into the lower range of detection. On the MQuant® Nitrite test strips, nitrite ions react with an aromatic amine to form a diazonium salt, which in turn reacts with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine to form a red-violet azo dye. The nitrite concentration is measured semi-quantitatively by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the fields of a color scale. The test strips are perfect for pre-testing a sample in an economic and quick way to estimate the nitrite concentration and a possible dilution factor prior to using a quantitative method such as a Reflectoquant® or Spectroquant® Nitrite test

Design for sustainability benefits:

We continue to demonstrate our commitment to our planet and a sustainable future by exploring ways to improve existing products in our portfolio. We have recently reviewed the current line of MQuant® test strips to identify key opportunities to minimize impact without compromising on the product performance.

This product has benefited from:

  • Test strip with reduction
  • Recycled aluminum tube
  • Digital instruction leaflet

Application

  • Urinary nitrite/nitrate ratio measured by isotope-dilution LC-MS/MS as a tool to screen for urinary tract infections.: This study illustrates the application of the nitrite test in the rapid diagnosis of urinary tract infections using advanced liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, enhancing the accuracy and speed of medical diagnostics (Chao et al., 2016).

  • Evaluations of urinary sediment and dry chemical detection in urinary tract infections.: This research evaluates the effectiveness of the nitrite test combined with dry chemical methods for diagnosing urinary tract infections, providing a comprehensive approach to enhance detection in clinical settings (Zhu et al., 2013).

  • New modification of the nitrite test in the diagnosis of urinary tract infections.: This historical study discusses a novel modification of the nitrite test aimed at improving the diagnostic process for urinary tract infections, demonstrating the evolution of analytical techniques in medical diagnostics (Sasinka et al., 1967).
