General description

Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM) with 0.1% Tween®80 is a complex medium designed for the cultivation and isolation of fastidious aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms present in sterility test samples of pharmaceutical industry.
The medium formulation contains a reduced agar content thereby rendering the appearance to be clear. The anaerobic atmosphere is created through reducing the redox potential of the medium by Thioglycollate and L-Cystine. Additionally, these compounds inactivate mercury and other heavy metal elements present in the environment.
Further reduction of oxygen diffusion is induced by agar, while maintaining the clarity of the medium. The indicator ingredient present in the medium indicates the reduction potential. Increase in oxygen concentration is indicated through a color change reaction in the fluid thioglycollate (FTM) medium.

Application

Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM) with 0.1% Tween®80 is used as a sterility testing medium for sterile pharmaceutical samples. FTM clear is mainly used to cultivate and isolate anaerobic and microaerophilic microbes.

Analysis Note

The appearance of the medium is clear or almost clear and yellowish.
