General description

Autoclavable. Stable over a wide pH range at 37°C for up to 15 days.
Broad-spectrum cell culture antibiotic that is non-toxic to viruses and mammalian cells at anti-bacterial and anti-mycoplasmal concentrations. Its extended stability and the slow development of bacterial resistance allow long-term virus and tissue culture studies. Composed of three closely related compounds: gentamycin C1, C1a, and C2. Reduces sphingomyelinase activity in fibroblasts. Molecular weight of C2 free base = 463.0.
