General description

Integrin alpha M/beta 2 is implicated in various adhesive interactions of monocytes, macrophages and granulocytes as well as in mediating the uptake of complement-coated particles. It is identical with CR 3, the receptor for the iC3b fragment of the third complement component. It probably recognizes the R-G-D peptide in C3b. Integrin alpha M/beta 2 is also a receptor for fibrinogen, factor X and ICAM1. It recognizes P1 and P2 peptides of fibrinogen gamma chain.

Specificity

Recognizes most macrophages (including resident peritoneal and activated macrophages), kupffer cells, but only about 35% of alveolar macrophages. The antibody also labels dendritic cells extensively, granulocytes and cells with the morphology of microglia in brain. The antibody precipitates three polypeptides of 150, 103 and 95 KDa. The antibody inhibits complement mediated rosettes and is probably the rat equivalent of the human receptor for IC3b called CR3.
FUSION PARTNER: NSO myeloma cell line.

The pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease is thought to involve a self-sustaining cycle of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. In order to develop novel anti-inflammatory therapies to break this cycle, it is crucial that the temporal relationship between neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation is characterised
Astrocytes and oligodendrocytes can be generated from NG2+ progenitors after acute brain injury: intracellular localization of oligodendrocyte transcription factor 2 is associated with their fate choice.

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) produces a neuroinflammatory reaction in rat brain characterized by an increase in interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and microglial activation. The CB2 receptor agonist JWH-015 reduces both these changes and partially protects against MDMA-induced neurotoxicity. We have examined MDMA-induced changes
