General description

Neurotensin receptor type 1 (UniProt P30989; also known as High-affinity levocabastine-insensitive neurotensin receptor, NT-R-1, NTR1, NTRH) is encoded by the NTSR1 (also known as NTRR) gene (Gene ID 4923) in human. Neurotensin (NT) is a tridecapeptide that acts as a neuromodulator in the CNS. It also behaves as a hormone in the gastrointestinal tract. Four different NTSRs have been reported. NTSR1 and NTSR2 are seven-transmembrane G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), while NTSR3 and NTSR4 are members of the sortilin protein family with a single-transmembrane spanning domain. NTSR1 is a high affinity NT receptor and plays an important role in cancer cell proliferation, survival, mobility, and invasion. NT has also been implicated in the pathophysiology of several CNS disorders, such as schizophrenia, drug abuse, eating disorders, and Parkinson’s disease.
