General description
Mitochondrial membranes contain several ion channels. Among them, mitochondrial chloride channels are involved in the regulation of the mitochondrial volume, maintenance of the mitochondria membrane potential, and apoptosis. The chloride transport activity of these channels is known to be dependent on the mitochondrial pH, with their activity increasing under acidic conditions and decreasing at pH greater than 7.0 (1). BioTracker Mito-Chloride Live Cell Dye is a mitochondrial Cl- selective fluorescent probe. Fluorescence of probe is insensitive to pH over the physiological pH range and is quenched by Cl- with Stern−Volmer quenching constant of 201 M−1 at pH 7.0 (1). This probe can be used to monitor the effects of substances on chloride levels in mitochondria.Reference:1. Park, Sang-Hyun, et al. "Mitochondrial Cl–-Selective Fluorescent Probe for Biological Applications." Analytical Chemistry 92.18 (2020): 12116-12119.
