General description

Activated charcoal is a black powder that is generally obtained by subjecting wood or other carbonaceous materials to pyrolysis process.

Application

Activated charcoal may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of adsorbable organic halides (AOX) in:
  • Landfill leachates, glyphosate formulations, and treated wastewater by adsorption-pyrolysis-microcoulometric procedure.
  • Aqueous environmental samples by adsorption followed by combustion ion chromatography (CIC).
  • Surface water and wastewater samples by adsorption-pyrolysis followed by plasma emission spectrometric detection.
