Application

  • The activation mode of the mechanosensitive ion channel, MscL, by lysophosphatidylcholine differs from tension-induced gating: L-α-LPC is explored for its unique interaction with ion channels, suggesting its potential as a tool for studying channel mechanics and developing new therapeutic strategies for diseases linked to cellular mechanics (Mukherjee et al., 2014).

  • Aerosol delivery of an enhanced helper-dependent adenovirus formulation to rabbit lung using an intratracheal catheter: The use of L-α-LPC in enhancing the delivery of gene therapy vectors via aerosol demonstrates its utility in improving the efficiency of gene therapies, particularly for respiratory diseases (Koehler et al., 2005).

Biochem/physiol Actions

3-sn-Lysophosphatidylcholine, besides contributing to the positive curvature of membranes , inhibits SNARE complex disassembly in vitro and in rat nerve terminals and exocrine pancrease .
