Canine Cocker Spaniel kidney

Cell Line Description

Derived from the kidney of a normal adult Cocker Spaniel in 1958. Useful in viral studies, supports the growth of vesicular exanthema virus of swine, vesicular stomatitis, vaccina, coxsackie B-5, adenoviruses, reoviruses and infectious canine hepatitis. Also known as MDCK (NBL-2).

Application

Virus studies: SVEV, VSV, Vaccinia, reoviruses and inf. canine hepatitis virus

Culture Medium

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C. Cells attach firmly and require at least 2 PBS washes prior to addition of trypsin/EDTA.
