General description

Organic solute transporter subunit β (SLC51B) is a 128-amino acid, single-transmembrane domain containing polypeptide. It is localized in the small intestine, kidney and liver.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Organic solute transporter subunit β (SLC51B) mediates the bile acid export and sterol reabsorption in the intestine. Along with OSTα, it forms a heteromeric transporter complex. The substrates of this transporter are bile acid taurocholate, steroid like digoxin and prostaglandin E2. Its expression is induced by the bile acids through ligand-dependent transactivation by the nuclear bile acid receptor/farnesoid X receptor (FXR).The transport function is Na+ independent and is inhibited by organic anions and steroids.
