The GrpE like 1, mitochondrial (GRPEL1) protein interacts with chaperone proteins DnaK and heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70). GrpEL1 functions as a stress modulator by regulating mitochondrial functions. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in GRPEL1 gene has been observed in gastric cancer cell lines.
