Gene Information

General description

B-lymphocyte activating factor (BAFF/TNFSF13B) is a cytokine that belongs to the TNF (tumor necrosis factor) superfamily. BAFF is located on human chromosome 13q33.

Immunogen

a peptide corresponding to amino acids near the carboxy-terminus of human BAFF.

Biochem/physiol Actions

B cell activating factor (BAFF) participates in B cell and T cell mediated immunity. It plays a key role in the survival and differentiation of B cells. Mutations in BAFF regulates the levels of antibody. BAFF also participates in enhancing the responses of IL-6 (interlukin-6) and TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor alpha), that helps hepatocytes in the production of acute-phase protein.

Linkage

The action of this antibody can be blocked using blocking peptide SBP2221.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide
