General description
Transferrin is an 80 kDa serum glycoprotein, which is expressed in hepatocytes. The gene is located on human chromosome 3q22.1.
Optiferrin™ is recombinant human transferrin that is completelyblood-free. Optiferrin’s performance is equivalent to human holo transferrin incell culture and offers significant regulatory advantages due to its safety andconsistency. Optiferrin is suitable for a broad range of cell types thatinclude stem, primary, and bioproduction cells.

Application
Transferrin Human has been used to perform immunoprecipitation measurements. It has also been used for the preparation of essential 8 medium.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Human transferrin was shown to promote allogeneic chimerism in mice after irradiation and transplantation of incompatible bone marrow.
Transferrin facilitates the transfer of iron to erythron and peripheral tissues. It stimulates the proliferation of human lymphocytes. Mutations in this gene are linked to atransferrinemia.
