Folic acid, a water-soluble B vitamin, is present in several food products. As it is not produced in the human body, diet is one of the easiest ways to obtain it. It plays a major role in the biochemical synthesis and repair of DNA and is used in the management of megaloblastic anemias, neural tube defects such as anencephaly and spina bifida.
