Application

Adenosine-5′-diphosphoglucose (ADP-Glucose) is a substrate widely used as a glucose donor. It is a substrate in starch synthesis by starch synthase (EC 2.4.1.21). ADP-Glucose is a substrate for alpha-1,4-glucan-protein synthase (ADP-forming) (EC 2.4.1.113), ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylases and many glucosyltransferases.
Adenosine-5′-diphosphoglucose disodium salt has been used as a component of the reaction mixture to measure the enzymatic activity of adenosine-5′-diphosphate (ADP)-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) and for the synthesis of starch.

Solid semi-crystalline starch and hydrosoluble glycogen define two distinct physical states of the same type of storage polysaccharide. Appearance of semi-crystalline storage polysaccharides appears linked to the requirement of unicellular diazotrophic cyanobacteria to fuel nitrogenase and protect it from oxygen

Seed setting is an important trait that contributes to seed yield and relies greatly on starch accumulation. In this study, a sulfoquinovosyl transferase-like protein, designated as SQD2.2 involved in seed setting and flavonoid accumulation, was identified and characterized in rice.
