General description
L(+)-Lactate emerges as a crucial metabolic byproduct within the animal body, synthesized via the enzyme Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH). In the realm of cellular metabolism, lactate accrues as a result of vigorous cell division and under oxygen-deprived conditions, such as strenuous physical activity. Elevated lactate levels can signal various medical conditions, including oncological disorders, diabetes mellitus, and lactic acidosis. Notably, L(+)-Lactate, the predominant isomer generated during human metabolic processes, typically circulates in the bloodstream at concentrations ranging from 1 to 2 mmol/L.
Lactate plays a pivotal role in metabolism, particularly within the Cori cycle, where it serves as a link between anaerobic glycolysis in muscles and gluconeogenesis in the liver. During intense exercise when oxygen is scarce, pyruvate is converted into lactate by LDH, which can then be transported to the liver to synthesize glucose, thereby maintaining energy homeostasis. Additionally, lactate serves as an important energy source for the brain and heart, demonstrating its versatility beyond a mere end-product of anaerobic respiration.

Suitability
Suitable for measuring L-Lactate in various biological samples such as cells, culture medium, and tissues.
Principle
In this assay, the quantification of lactate is achieved through an enzymatic method that yields a color change (observable at 570 nm) or a fluorescent signal (with an excitation wavelength of 535 nm and emission wavelength of 587 nm), both of which correlate directly with the amount of lactate in the sample. The sensitivity range of this kit is capable of detecting lactate concentrations as low as 0.2 - 10 nmol/well.
